Board of Directors

Laura Korthuis

Treasurer & Financial Office

I have been on the Board of Directors since mid-2018, but began volunteering with New Generation Ministries in 2012 after traveling to Haiti for the first time on a Vision and Learning trip. Since then I have enjoyed being involved in many different aspects of the ministry like; fundraiser events, processing donations, and restructuring the accounting system in order to build better reporting tools. I have traveled to Haiti three times and am eager to return.

Chairman of the Board

I was raised in a Christian home and never doubted the validity of the Christian faith. Throughout life I have slowly to love God more and more and always had a heart for the people around me, and far away! Along with my wife and four children, we adopted our 5th child from China 5 years ago. I am currently a deacon and missions director at Legacy Church in Bellingham. I love serving on the New Generations board and love hearing about the massive movement toward Christ in Haiti! My day job is a local business owner.

My wife and I currently attend North Country Christ the King Church, where we are trying to become more active within our community. We are currently expanding our role within missions and Christ’s Kingdom, and what that looks like for us. I specifically enjoy using my talent with computers and technology to further God’s kingdom. I also feel that I have skills in communication, leadership and encouragement, that I am working on growing within myself to help others.

I have an Associate’s in Criminal Justice, a Bachelor’s in Political Science and a post-undergrad paralegal certificate. I am extremely interested in political economics, and believe that government aid inhibits the economic development of the nation being aided, and is rarely in the best interest of the receiving country. I think private aid through ministries and grassroots organizations are far more effective and sustainable. In 2015, my husband Ian and I had the opportunity to stay in Haiti for almost 7 months with New Generation Haiti. This truly was a blessing, and such an influential time for us. Ian and I were married in 2012 and have a beautiful daughter named Morgan. I am a strong advocate for helping without hurting, and believe that, whether at home or afar, we should empower and teach our strengths rather than going and doing. I would like to be on the board so that I may take a more active role in the ministry that I love. To be on the board of an organization that I hold in such high regard, and to be able to help with the direction of the ministry going forward, would be a privilege.

I grew up in a Christian household, but like most, didn’t come to true conversion until later in life. I was blessed to be able to travel to Haiti multiple times, thanks to my dad, and the impact those trips had on my youth was immeasurable. Once the Lord called me to salvation in my 20s, I felt hard-pressed to serve my Lord in ministry in whatever capacity He would have me. Little did I know that He would have me serve the homeless for the next 5 years until that chapter of my life ended. This period in my life endowed me with a love of evangelism and a love for defending the faith that has turned into a never-ending pursuit of study that I fear will only be quenched in death. I look forward to being of service in whatever way the Lord would have me, for the furtherance of His Kingdom and that He might be glorified. To Him be praise, glory, and dominion forever

I was born and raised in Northwest Washington and have spent most of my life in my hometown of Lynden. My wife, Amber, and I have been married for 20 years and are blessed with four children. I currently serve as the Director of Safety and Security for the Lynden School District and am deeply involved in our community. I attend North County Christ the King Church, where I volunteer in several ministries, including safety, prayer, mentorship, and healing ministries. I’ve been connected to New Generation Ministries since its founding in 2010, supporting various efforts over the years such as short-term mission trips, construction projects, and community outreach. In 2014, my family and I spent a year living in Haiti, where I served as the Director of Youth Ministry. I’m honored by the opportunity to join the Board of Directors and to continue supporting the work God is doing through New Generation Ministries in Haiti

I was born in Surrey, BC, and raised in Abbotsford, and now living in Langley. I married to my wife Char. My current role with New Generation Haiti is the treasurer and bookkeeper for the Canadian arm of the ministry. I would like to bring increased connection between Canadian and the US boards. Char and I have been to Haiti on a short term mission trip with New Generation. I am passionate about feeding the people of Haiti both physically AND spiritually. I am thankful that New Generation Ministries has taken up the call to come alongside the Haitian people to help usher in lasting change.

My wife, Lou, and I have 2 sons with 10 grandchildren. We are from Kansas, and we moved to Lynden in 2006. I was a pilot in the Air Force during the Vietnam war, and retired from United Airlines in 2014. We have been members of North County Christ The King since 2009. I met Mike and Chris, learning about their vision for Haiti, when I attended NCCTK’s “Dream School” with them. In 2010, I went on a mission trip with Mike, and we’ve been supporting the Lord’s work there since that time. Haiti is under spiritual attack, and it’s a privilege to be able to serve on the board, and help in any way possible to expand God’s kingdom there.
